Description- Upstage Insider &
LSR Dramatics Society brings to you an adaptation of a classic play ; Better Love A Dream

Written before the Puritan revolution in England – Twelfth Night, due to it’s genre of comedy, broke numerous confines through the guise of comic. It also happens to be extremely forward and modern for it’s time due to themes like gender transgression.
It is this transgression our adaptation focusses on as it attempts to rewrite the heteronormative ending of the play, conveniently brought in through the element of chance which we will question.
The adaptation plays with two binaries. The one between categorization of gender and the other between comedy and tragedy. As the rising scholarship and gender movements question the categorizing of male and female, we too do the same through a centuries old play. Finally, through multiple narrative and character techniques created by Shakespeare in other plays we attempt to show the tragic in a quintessentially comic play.
The idea is to show gender as the fickle category it is, comic as tragic and Shakespearean English as easy, contrary to popular belief. We subscribe to and abide by the original play’s ideology of “Nothing that is so is so.”
