Akash Odedra has earned himself the adjective of being a ‘revolutionary performer’, with his unique intermingling of multiple dance forms. Based in Birmingham, Odedra began his dancing journey, learning Kathak in Leichester, under Ms. Nilima Devi, one of the leading exponents of Kathak dance in the UK. He completed his training under the tutelage of acclaimed dancers like Chitralekha Bolar in Birmingham and Asha Joglekar and Chhaya Kanvateh in India. Odedra blends South Asian classical dance forms with contemporary dance fashion, creating a fusion of Bharatnatyam and Indo-Jazz.
Today Aakash Odedra is one of the most sought-after performers, who preach a philosophy of expressing stories through movements and spreading ecstasy of dance to different communities. He has been the recipient of the Development Grant by The Arts Council England along with a bouquet of many other achievements. The momentum, buoyancy and unique approach in which he celebrates the spirit of dance have earned him critical acclaim and are stupendously received by the international audience.
‘Rising’ is a very successful production by Odedra, which was presented at St. Andrews’s Auditoriums on 21st February 2016. India Heritage Desk was immensely pleased to be a part of this production as co-sponsor along with the British Council of India.
